My name is Jon Graham and my family is the reason I use essential oils and they are also the reason I want to teach and share the benefits of the oils with everyone.

You see, pain has been a constant companion for much of my life.  So much so that I never really gave thought as to what was causing the pain – I thought it was just part of life and accepted it.

Only after I returned from an extremely stressful deployment to Iraq in 2003-04, diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, given several medications to manage the pain, and underwent two Medical Evaluation Boards (both of which recommended an early separation or medical retirement from the U.S. Army) did I begin to think about what was causing the pain – if I could find the cause, I could stop the pain.

I wrote about my experience with Fibromyalgia here, so I won’t rehash it on this page.

So, let’s fast forward to 2010 – a family friend introduced my wife to essential oils and doTERRA.  She joined doTERRA as a consultant to get her oils at discount and commenced to experimented a bit (a lot, really) with the different oils on all of us – the kids loved the oils, and I was amazed that they worked.

They worked so well for me that I have been able to do things recently that I had been able to do in over 10 years – running for more than 100 yards without getting a headache.

In fact, at the time of writing this page, I had just completed my first ever Sprint Triathlon. I wasn’t the fastest guy on the course, but I did finish.

That's great, but what makes you an expert on essential oils?

I am glad you asked such a great question!

I do not consider myself an expert on essential oils in any way.  I do not have any certifications, degrees, or any type of sealed official parchment that declares to the world that I am an expert in this area.

My background is as officer in the U.S. Army with over 20 years of active service.  Nothing in those years of service, except developing certain chronic health conditions, qualifies me as an essential oil expert.

What I am is a regular guy who has taken the time to research, experiment, and learn for myself the power of using essential oils, and I simply want to share with you (and everyone else) what I learn.

And that, of course, is the mission of doESSENTIALS and this site: to share the health benefits of essential oils to all; and to teach everyone how to effectively manage their own healthcare and the healthcare of their families

Why did you partner with doTERRA?

The simple answer could be “that’s who we were introduced to first,” but the real answer is not quite that simple.

After I reached 20 years of service in the U.S. Army, my wife and I had a difficult decision to make regarding when to retire and what to do after retirement: should I continue along the same line of work as either a government employee or contractor, or completely make a career change and work for myself.

Continuing along the same line of work meant that I could easily transition into civilian life and potentially increase my income greatly, but it also meant that I would continue to work for someone else.

Completely making a career change and starting my own business meant starting out at the bottom again and working my way up.  It also meant uncertainty, instability, and headaches if my venture were to fail.  But it also meant financial independence and freedom if it were to succeed.

Well, we decided to start our own business.  To help us decide what to do, I sat down and wrote out a few things that I wanted to get out of running our own business.

It had to be one where:

  1. I can become completely involved – I wanted to wake up and can’t wait to get to work; I wanted to enjoy what I do and not feel like it is a drag.
  2. There is low risk – It had to be relatively easy and inexpensive to get started.
  3. It would provide continual income – I wanted to set up a stream of income that would continue long after the initial hard work is done.
  4. You can’t be ‘let go’ or fired – I wanted a business where I am my own boss.
  5. There are no (or few) employees – I didn’t want the hassle of dealing with lots of employees.
  6. The playing field is level – I wanted a business where anyone and everyone can succeed based on the amount of effective effort they put into it.
  7. It is portable – I wanted to work in any location I choose.
  8. Freedom is attainable – I did not want to be constrained by an employer or employees, or by the demands of others; I wanted the freedom to do what I wanted when I wanted.
  9. There is a drive for personal development – I wanted to continually work on my weaknesses so that they become strengths.

That list was a tall order to fulfill, and not many business ventures I was interested in fit the bill.

However, a network marketing business could easily satisfy all of those requirements.

So, we began looking for the right network marketing company with whom to form a partnership.  We looked at a few, but we really didn’t have to look far because my wife had already joined doTERRA as a consultant years earlier in order to buy her oils at 25% discount.  The fact that she was already earning a small check without much effort didn’t hurt either.

So, to answer your question, here are the four primary reasons we decided to partner with doTERRA:

Great products that work.  This is a no brainer for me – if the products didn’t work, then I would truly feel like a snake oil salesman peddling fake remedies to real illnesses.  But, they do work and they work well.  Granted, I was skeptical when my wife first introduced me to the oils, but over time, I have seen them work many miracles in mine and my family’s lives.

Of course, there are many more reasons why we decided to build a business with doTERRA, but those are the primary ones.
